Steve Leigh is a first generation homebuilder who literally fell into the homebuilding field by accident. When he was in high school he took some drafting classes and became interested in Architecture, and had planned to go to Architectural School, but his family had other plans for him so he ended up in a business school. Ultimately he ended up in the real estate business (not the construction business). After a few years of managing commercial properties and dealing with other people’s half-baked design ideas and “economical” construction, he decided to start out on his own, with no long term plan other than to buy a piece of land and build a house his own way. During that first job, he had the opportunity to meet many potential clients, brokers, and architects who ultimately provided the foundation for a career in homebuilding, with some interesting diversions along the way.
Steve has been a homebuilder now for 25 years, and is currently a member of the National Association of Homebuilders, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Long Island Builder’s Institute. He is also a past member of the Associated Builders and Owners of Greater New York as well as the Rockland County Builder’s Association. He has built, and or consulted on projects in five states in the US (mostly in the Northeast), as well as overseas in Mexico and Eastern Europe.
